Overview

QP Training (D973) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Instructor to support needs for the Training School. This position will report to the Chief of Operations Training / Training Supervisor and play an integral role in the training and qualification of students requiring initial and refresher training at Quonset Point. While this individual will teach within their trade, they will also support course work outside their trade discipline specifically, respirator, fall protection, safety & fire related, nuclear and other general training courses as required.

This instructor position will be part of a team, responsible for the training of students at QP. Qualified candidates will have a strong sense of commitment to Safety and Procedure Compliance, be a self-starter, the ability to work independently and possess strong verbal & written communication skills. Candidates must also possess the ability to multi-task with a friendly, approachable customer service demeanor and a desire to teach.

Responsibilities & Duties - The responsibilities & duties include but are not limited to:

  • Instructing multiple courses in a variety of topics including sheetmetal, fall protection, respirator, tank watch and other general training courses
  • Directing and assessing hands on training with mockups and related exercises
  • Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during deck plate audits
  • Assessing student performance & identifying nonconformance to policies, procedures and technical documents
  • Supporting various course content reviews and related activities
  • Conducting assessments as scheduled
  • Meeting with HR Business Partners regarding student performance as needed
  • Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics
  • Communicate with other Training shifts to advance work and communicate issues
  • Supporting special training projects as required
  • Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned
  • Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Groton Operations (Casciano)

Work Schedule The selected candidate will be need to be flexible to support training on all shifts. Shift assignment will be based on business need.

  • Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Possess a High school diploma (minimum)
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of sheetmetal experience
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of Electric Boat experience
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and don a Safety Harness as required
  • Must be able to travel throughout the facility to facilitate training as required

Preferred:

  • Prior experience teaching
  • Nuclear trade experience
  • Associates Degree
