Overview

Department D341 Welding and NDT Engineering-Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing - Responsible for providing technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers with respect to welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines. A challenging opportunity exists within the Supplier Oversight Group.

Basic requirements include, but not limited to:

  • Participate in audits of suppliers performing welding to confirm contractual requirements are being followed at the suppliers location
  • Follow up on audit findings and work to adjudicate findings affecting in process and delivered hardware
  • Review and approve supplier welding procedures
  • Disposition vendor information requests
  • Provide welding training/guidance to suppliers
  • Ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills to allow close communication of technical issues with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers and Electric Boat management.
  • Frequency of travel varies but at most travel to suppliers is one week at time, up to once per month.



Responsibilities

  • Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in the following disciplines:
    • Mechanical
    • Welding
    • Metallurgical
    • Materials (if focus is on Metallics)
  • 0-5 years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial weldingenvironment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication

Preferred:

  • Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
  • Leadership experience
