Overview
Department D341 Welding and NDT Engineering-Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing - Responsible for providing technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers with respect to welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines. A challenging opportunity exists within the Supplier Oversight Group.
Basic requirements include, but not limited to:
- Participate in audits of suppliers performing welding to confirm contractual requirements are being followed at the suppliers location
- Follow up on audit findings and work to adjudicate findings affecting in process and delivered hardware
- Review and approve supplier welding procedures
- Disposition vendor information requests
- Provide welding training/guidance to suppliers
- Ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills to allow close communication of technical issues with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers and Electric Boat management.
- Frequency of travel varies but at most travel to suppliers is one week at time, up to once per month.
Responsibilities
- Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in the following disciplines:
- Mechanical
- Welding
- Metallurgical
- Materials (if focus is on Metallics)
- 0-5 years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial weldingenvironment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication
Preferred:
- Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
- Leadership experience
