Overview
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systmes manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance markets. We presently have a need for a Sr Systems Engineer at our San Diego (Otay Mesa) location. This role is elegibile for a referral bonus.
This position is responsible for planning, organizing and reviewing the performance of professional and/or technical staff performing engineering work related to the design of control electronics for motion control products.
Preferred experience for this role:
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical testing methods, data collection and analysis, equipment used in testing, and methods/processes of testing operations
- Experience with embedded C for motor control
- Knowledge of feedback devices for motor control such as hall sensors, resolvers and encoders
- Experience with multiple serial communications protocols such as SPI, I2C, RS232/RS485
- Gigabit Ethernet direct experience is a plus
- Strong research, design, and development knowledge within the electrical engineering discipline including the knowledge of control systems.
- Proficient with MATLAB and SIMULINK applications.
- Altium Designer skillset is a plus
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and
- integration, and technical services and support.
- Designs, implements, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructures including hardware,
- software, and various configurations.
- Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately.
- Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures.
- Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
- May have sole responsibility for projects and participate in disaster recovery exercises.
Qualifications
Required Education: Associate's Degree
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline/Major: General Engineering or specialized Engineering degree required
Years and Area of Experience (required for the role): 5-7 years experience in a relevant function
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Technical expertise. Analytical thinking skills. Problem-solving skills.
Critical Professional Related Technical Skills; Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
