The Manufacturing Weld Tech performs welding and machining work to aid in site production of combat vehicles. Typical duties are spot/repair welding, building fixtures, tapping broken bolts and other duties as needed to aid in vehicle assembly.

- 9-80 Work Schedule (This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off).
Responsibilities to Anticipate for this role
- Perform Preliminary Hull Damage Assessment and Corrosion Assessment on all Stryker Family of Vehicles.
- Perform Welding tasks on all Stryker Family of Vehicles as a GDLS Certified welder in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) processes.
- Perform welding procedures on accident damage / battle damage Stryker family of vehicles following engineering Structural Assessment.
- Perform welding procedures, tasks, advise and assist in the validation, and implementation of Welding as required.
- Determine layout and weld parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Conduct welding tasks for installation of Retrofit kits of the Stryker family of vehicles.
- Identify and advise Supervisor/Management regarding problems within technical areas as required.
- Must meet certification requirements and perform scope of work in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications and procedures.
- Must complete certification for Nondestructive Testing (NDT) to become a Welder Self-Inspector. (Refer to JBLM Procedure 9585-234)
- Obtain and maintain the required welding certifications to weld on Stryker Family of vehicles.
- Welding to include operation of slag tool, pre-heating, air arcing, grinding, plasma cutting equipment.
- Operate overhead crane, Tug, Jib, and forklift.
- Perform pre and /or post operation and safety checks of equipment.
- Given Stryker welding Schematics, a Stryker Hull Final Structural Assessment and Repair Procedure, an NMC vehicle and the appropriate tools, the welder will have the knowledge to describe how to troubleshoot and develop a solution to overcome spatial or structural-based difficulties.
- When not engaged in weld-related activities, the applicant may be required to support other production activities as required
- Wearing of required PPE (personal protective equipment) and compliance with all safety standards is mandatory.
- Overtime and off-shift work may be required.
- Additional responsibilities and interfaces may be assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Two (2) years welding experience in a manufacturing/work environment
- AWS Academy training and certification
- Selected candidate must successfully complete classroom requirements by certifying in Welding with MIG and TIG on Aluminum, steel with the possibility of other types of metal. Various positions to include overhead, vertical, horizontal, flat, uphill/downhill vertical. 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G. Able to read weld symbols in drawings and put into place in the work being performed. Basic understanding of different welding machines. Confident after minor training to complete a 8-12 week weld school and pass the testing (Lima Ohio). Note: Visual Testing (VT) classroom requirements & Liquid Dye Penetrant Testing (PT) are included in the training.
- Climbing ladders and into and onto structures.
- Potential for walking and standing on uneven surfaces.
- Bending, kneeling, standing and stooping.
- Working in and around dust and fumes.
- Working in areas with a high noise volume.
- Using hand tools including, but not limited to sledgehammer, pry bar, large wrenches, air/gas couplings.
- Must meet and maintain Anthropometric Size Restrictions (ASR) as outlined in Standard Practice (SP) 2-644.
- Must pass vision exam: (Jaeger & Ishihara Vision color contrast differentiation test).
- Must be U.S. Citizen willing and able to obtain / maintain a Passport and real ID for travel and access to other locations.
- Must obtain access to military bases.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must satisfy skills test- including vision, audio, respirator clearance and physical.
- Must be able to lift and handle a minimum weight limit of 70 lbs.
- Required to obtain an overhead crane license.
- Willingness travel to off-site locations when assigned.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- May be required to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.
