Overview

Department 451 Instrumentation provides data acquisition services to support acceptance testing and troubleshooting for VIRGINIA- and COLUMBIA-Class submarine construction and overhaul. Included in the data acquisition services is the design and development of new systems along with the upkeep and maintenance of existing systems.

The Instrumentation Software Engineering Supervisor is responsible for technical leadership and the cost/schedule management of the Software and IT Instrumentation teams tasks associated with data acquisition. Familiarity with EVMS and Artemis will set the candidate up for success in this function. The tasks associated with this position focus on the software projects necessary to sustain instrumentation and data acquisition efforts for the VIRGINIA-Class program, as well as the development of instrumentation and data acquisition software for the CLB Class program. Furthermore, this position involves the oversight of Instrumentations IT infrastructure, to include the unclassified instrumentation network and the classified instrumentation network. Information security principles must be upheld in these systems to provide a functional, well-protected data acquisition system for collecting shipboard data. The position involves working collaboratively with internal and external customers, to include VIRGINIA-Class and CLB Class Program Offices, various Electric Boat engineering and test organizations (primarily shipyard and nuclear), Naval Nuclear Laboratories, Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Reactors Representatives Office, and Reactor Plant Contractors Office. Future growth is anticipated based on the COLUMBIA Acceleration Program and the demand from the Navy.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Supervise a group of approximately 12 people
  • Maintain software projects to support VIRGINIA-Class instrumentation and data acquisition efforts
  • Develop software to support CLB Class instrumentation and data acquisition tasks
  • Establish and communicate high-quality work expectations and driving accountability
  • Sustain the classified and unclassified instrumentation networks, keeping in compliance with the rigorous security standards
  • Progress activities as they relate to CLB Class instrumentation and data acquisition development in Artemis
  • Budget material and labor to support all projects for various customers
  • Collaborate with interdepartmental groups to provide and receive support, as necessary
  • Preserve communications with and provide status updates to stakeholders as necessary
  • Take customer inputs and define user requirements to develop optimal solutions
  • Update all software projects to uphold security policies
  • Upgrade the CASCON system software as it becomes necessary

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering
  • 4+ years of postgraduate experience within Software, Embedded Software, or IT experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance
  • Knowledge in various software languages (C#, Visual Studio, Python, LabVIEW, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Previous project management experience
  • Prior experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Artemis
  • Knowledge/prior experience with LabVIEW
  • Knowledge in IT/Cybersecurity languages (CompTIA, Security+, Network+, A+, etc.)
  • Previous experience in a leadership role or Navy experience
  • Masters degree in leadership or business (i.e. Master of Science in Organizational Leadership or MBA)
  • Experience working with various internal & external customers (Program Offices, STO/NTO, NNL, NAVSEA, RPCO & NRRO)Familiarity with DoD information security principles (DAAPM, NIST, RMF, etc.)
  • Experience with design and implementation of data acquisition systems
