Overview
Department 341 Welding & NDT Engineering Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing is looking for an additional team member to support onboarding of a new supplier.
Basic job responsibilities include:
- Provide dedicated on-site support to supplier developing NAVSEA Technical Publication welding program.
- Support supplier in qualifying new welding procedures
- Review and approve supplier welding procedures
- Offer insight and guidance in the development of quality procedures that support welding program
- Provide direct oversight and continued assessment of supplier weld program performance
- Provide technical guidance and expertise with respect to construction support, problem resolution and corrective actions for welding performed by supplier
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of welding
Responsibilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a technical and nontechnical audience
- Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
- Ability to effectively prioritize work and support multiple projects at the same time
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
- 5+ years of post graduate related engineering experience
Preferred:
- Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
- Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
- The ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings
- Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
- Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures
