Overview

Department 428 Electrical Systems is looking for highly motivated software and/or system engineers to the fill engineering positions in the Monitoring & Control System Group.

The Monitoring & Control Systems Group is a COLUMBIA Program dedicated team responsible for the development of the Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) Monitoring and Control (HMC) system. The HMC system is a networked based system that provides signal conditioning and electrical flow paths for control, indication, monitoring, and alarms based on sensor (e.g. temperature, pressure, salinity) data. HMC features comprehensive use of network switches, servers, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and display panels located throughout the ship for monitoring and control. The HMC system develops and maintains the software code for all of the applications, including C++, java and ladder logic for PLCs.

Primary Technical tasks may include:

  • Developing, managing and executing software code and software testing
  • Maintaining cybersecurity, interface requirements and specifications
  • Developing procurement specifications and subcontractor statements of work
  • Identifying, documenting and coordinating system/component interfaces
  • Selecting components for use within system/component designs
  • Verifying system/component compliance with ship building specification requirements
  • Developing system/component test procedures and support qualification testing
  • Identifying and managing of system/component risks
  • Developing system/component development plans and schedules
  • Supporting system/component logistics documentation including technical manuals, ship system manuals and operating instructions
  • Developing written correspondence, technical papers and presentations for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)
  • Support cableways and cableways development and change

Occasional travel may be required for these positions.



Responsibilities

  • Able to learn and apply new techniques as required.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical bachelors degree with electrical, computer or software concentration.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the DOD
  • 0-3 years of experience relevant to the job description.

Preferred:

  • Experience with C/C++, Java, SQL, and/or PLC ladder logic
  • Previous Navy experience
  • Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with developing hardened applications
  • Knowledge of Military system or component development for Naval Platforms
  • Experience with project management and systems engineering practices and principles including configuration management, Microsoft Project and DOORS
  • Familiar with JIRA, Gitlab
  • Familiar with microservice software architecture
