Job Description:
GDIT 's Military Health Team is hiring a Clinical Research Nurse (Registered Nurse) to support the 59th Medical Wing (MDW), located at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
The 59th Medical Wing Science and Technology (ST) office advises and conducts clinical and translational research on matters pertaining to the medical aspects of the Air Expeditionary Force and the health of Air Force (AF) personnel and beneficiaries. In order to support the required research, ST offices conduct translational research in the areas of emergency medical care, combat casualty care, force health protection, restorative medicine, clinical and rehabilitative medicine and specialty centers.
The Nursing Department service areas include Trauma, Critical Care, Oncology, Neuroscience, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Medical Surgical Specialties, Perioperative Nursing, Interventional Radiology, Diabetes care, Inpatient care services, outpatient clinic and more.
What you will be doing:
- Exercising the full domain of practice for the clinical research nurse specialty that includes providing clinical care to research patients, supporting protocol implementation, and data collection, continuity of care, human subject protection and dissemination of clinical research findings.
- Utilizing advanced critical thinking and nursing skills to assess, plan, perform and evaluate nursing care for individual patients, patient's families and significant others who are participants in biomedical research protocols.
- Identifying and communicating the impact of research processes on patient care.
- Reporting to the research team any intervention adjustments based on issues and variances found through evidence-based nursing practices.
- Supporting biomedical research through detailed observation, measurements and data collection related to pertinent assessments as defined by the protocol specifications and the nurse's clinical judgment.
- Documenting observations, identifying trends, and effectively communicating this information to the multidisciplinary research team and nursing colleagues.
- Maintain all clinical research documentation to support on going and future studies in support of the principal investigator and the project staff.
- Providing feedback to colleagues and investigators on all issues affecting the quality of the research endeavor.
- Assisting less-experienced nurses to learn the specifics of studies or protocols.
- Evaluating patient trends in outcomes and compliance. Contributing to the design of clinical trials.
- Providing patient-focused nursing care within an interdisciplinary team by collaborating with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
- Contributing to multidisciplinary rounds and activities regarding patient care and protocol implementation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates in Nursing degree and 4+ years clinical research nursing experience (Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools)
- Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted Registered Nurse license from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
- Experience should have been obtained in a research and clinical setting and include experience obtained in either the military, federal, private or public sector
- Must be a US Citizen and be able to pass a NACLC(T3) background investigation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors in Nursing degree and 2 + years clinical research nursing experience OR successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field

The likely salary range for this position is $62,962 - $80,040. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
