SUMMARY
Coordinate and assist trades and subcontractors to perform work within their area(s) of responsibility to meet project goals. Prioritize, sequence and coordinate all activities to completion in accordance with a plan, schedule and budget. Reports to the Ship Manager. Liaison closely with Quality Assurance, Planning, Engineering, Subcontractors, Materials, Safety, Customers, Vendors and other NASSCO Departments as appropriate. Develop inter-personal communications with Trade Supervision. Actively participate in the creation of policies/procedures that will enhance the role of Area Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
  • Coordinates/support shipboard trades and subcontractors to meet production requirements.
  • Monitor and anticipate schedule and budget deviations and initiate corrective action.
  • Monitor trade activities and provide input to the General Forman and/or Assistant Superintendent to initiate appropriate action.
  • Verify completion of production work for each phase of compartment completion.
  • Develop work plans in area(s) of responsibilities as required, working with trade supervision and training.
  • Ensure areas of responsibility are safe and clean at all times.
  • Initiate resolution of conflicting trade/subcontractors priorities.
  • Provide input to Planning in regards to zone strategies and work developmental process.
  • Provide appropriate feedback (lessons learned, ECNs etc) to Assistant Superintendents, Planning and Management.
  • Ensure material and equipment protection.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

  • SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Graduate or equivalent with good knowledge of trade responsibilities, ship systems and shipbuilding practices.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Good Team Building skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of milestone planning, progressing, ship compartmentation and nomenclature, production methods, procedures and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, work instructions, quality assurance procedures and budget and schedule development.
  • Successfully demonstrated knowledge of company policy and procedure.
  • Necessity for working extended hours at various times as job accomplishments require, including weekend and holidays.
  • Incumbent should be in able to spend long hours on the ship and be able to climb masts, enter voids, trunks, and engineering spaces to supervise work.
  • Must be able to make decisions, recognize dangerous conditions, know and understand safety, quality assurance, standard items, Union and Ships Force issues.

  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.


  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    Incumbent will frequently be exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes and smoke and must be able to spend Up to 75% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates where noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy 75% of the employees time, which may include sirens, horns, chipping and hammering. The remaining 25% of the employees time will be performed in an air conditioned office with low noise level.


    ACCOUNTABILITY
    Directly accountable for completion of assigned area, adhering to schedule, budgets and safe working conditions.
    PAY SCALE
    $76,300 - $109,900


    This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
