FORT BLISS, Tex. – The EDGE® Innovation Network will open the 12th EDGE facility, the Fort Bliss EDGE Innovation Center, on Thursday, May 24, in Fort Bliss, Texas. Located at Building 20196 Minue Drive, the new facility will become a vital local resource for quickly filling communications, command and control capability gaps and fielding innovations that improve soldier readiness. The EDGE Innovation Center will connect soldiers and other military personnel to the 11 other EDGE Innovation Centers worldwide, representing 250 members from industry and academia. The EDGE Innovation Network is sponsored by General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
The Fort Bliss EDGE Innovation Center is a unique, open environment that encourages military personnel to visit and engage with the EDGE team and its global members to experiment first-hand with advanced technologies and products ranging from soldier-worn, networked communications to new technologies and products integrated into military vehicles. The EDGE facility is part of General Dynamics C4 Systems’ Fort Bliss Regional Support and Training Center, which serves the integration, testing and training needs for the Army’s Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) exercises at Fort Bliss and White Sands Missile Range, N.M.
President of General Dynamics C4 Systems, Chris Marzilli, said, “General Dynamics has been a proud member of the Fort Bliss business community for more than 10 years. With the opening of the new Fort Bliss EDGE Innovation Center, we are renewing our commitment to the region and ensuring our world-class engineers are positioned to continue supporting the important mission of the U.S. Army. The Army’s number one modernization priority is our top priority, extending a single network that services all battlefield functional areas and is integrated with the Joint Force.”
“With Fort Bliss' unprecedented expansion, I am pleased that this new center will equip our soldiers with innovative communication tools that will improve soldier readiness and will further Fort Bliss’ strategic importance to America’s national security,” said Congressman Silvestre Reyes, whose district includes Fort Bliss. “I look forward to joining General Dynamics for their ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate our region’s cutting edge modernization efforts.”
General Dynamics’ Fort Bliss Regional Support and Training Center and EDGE Innovation Center comprise a 10,000-square-foot facility that is less than a mile from the 1st, 2nd and 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division locations. Both facilities will be available to military and government personnel interested in individual soldier training, communications equipment readiness and capabilities used during NIE events or the technologies and products available from the EDGE’s global membership.
The EDGE Innovation Network is a collaborative open environment enabling industry and academia, with government input, to work together to enhance the delivery cycle of new technologies and innovative capabilities to U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force personnel. The Fort Bliss EDGE Innovation Center increases the scope and capabilities of this collaborative concept to deliver innovation quickly and cost effectively for military and government operations worldwide.
